FAQs
Wait, Do Piranhas Really Eat People?
Nope, that's just a Hollywood myth! While piranhas do live in the Amazon, they're not the flesh-eating monsters you’ve seen in the movies. These fish are actually pretty shy and tend to stay away from humans. In fact, most of them stick to a diet of smaller fish and plants.
So, no need to worry—your toes are safe in the water! The Amazon is wild and full of adventure, but getting eaten by piranhas? Not part of the itinerary.
What’s in the Bag? Your Ultimate Packing Guide
Pack light and smart! Essentials include quick-dry clothing, a hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, and sturdy hiking shoes. Don’t forget a waterproof bag for your belongings, swimwear for the thermal pools, and a good camera to capture the stunning scenery.
We'll send you more information on what to bring before you leave to make it easy - Please note that your luggage once we depart by canoe is limited to a maximum of 15kg. You can leave any extra gear in the station until we return.
Safety First, But Adventure Comes with Risks—What Should I Know?
Your safety is our top priority, and we’ve got strong protocols in place, from expert hosts to carefully planned routes. But let's be real—this isn’t your average trip. You’ll be paddling through remote stretches of the Amazon, where access to medical care can be limited. There’s an inherent element of risk when you’re out in the wild, on the water, and far from city comforts.
While we’re prepared for emergencies, the unpredictable nature of the environment means that injuries, and in rare cases, even life-threatening situations, can happen. It’s all part of embracing the raw, untamed spirit of adventure. We’ll guide you every step of the way, but it’s important to understand and be ready for the real risks that come with exploring this untamed terrain.
Do I Need to Be in Shape for This Adventure?
You don’t need to be an Olympic athlete, but a moderate level of fitness will definitely help! You’ll be paddling, hiking, and embracing the wild, so a little prep before your adventure goes a long way. That said, we cater to all experience levels—our trips are about the experience, not just endurance.
Prepping for Peru: Your Health Checklist!
Before you dive into the wild wonders of the Amazon, make sure you’re in the know about health precautions! Touch base with your healthcare provider for the latest on vaccinations and health tips.
We recommend checking out the official health guidelines for Peru to ensure you’re all set for your journey. Being prepared means more time to soak in the adventure and less time worrying about the nitty-gritty!
Insurance: Yes, You Need It
Yes! Travel insurance is a must. It covers everything from unexpected trip cancellations to medical emergencies in the wild. We’re all about adventure, but we like to keep it stress-free, and having insurance is part of that plan.
What should I know about local customs and etiquette?
The Amazon is rich in culture, and we’re all about showing respect. Dress modestly when visiting communities, greet people with a friendly smile, and always ask permission before taking photos. And remember, every handshake, shared meal, and story told is part of the deeper connection we foster with the people who call this place home. We'll give you a full run down at your Welcome Dinner.
Wi-Fi or Wild? Staying Connected in the Amazon
This trip is all about disconnecting from the modern world and connecting with nature. Wi-Fi and phone service are limited, especially in the deeper parts of the jungle. But trust us, the experiences you’ll have will make you forget all about your inbox!
Never Held a Paddle? No Problem!
No paddling experience? No worries! We’ll teach you the ropes before you hit the water. Whether you’re a pro or a newbie, our hosts will make sure you’re prepped and ready to take on the river with confidence. It’s all about getting out there and embracing the adventure.
Each canoe is accompanied by host from one of the local communities to guide you through the wild. Apart from helping to navigate, you'll be able to spot wildlife like a pro and learn more about the indigenous culture and traditions on your way. Plus, this helps support the local communities too. Sounds like a win to us!
What Wild Things Will I See?
Manu is one of the most biodiverse places on the planet, so get ready for some epic wildlife encounters! From vibrant macaws and toucans soaring overhead to playful monkeys swinging through the treetops, the Amazon’s wildlife never disappoints.
Keep your eyes peeled for giant otters in the rivers, tapirs lounging by the banks, and if you're lucky, even the elusive jaguar might make an appearance!
That said, the jungle’s full of surprises, and while we can’t guarantee what you’ll see, every day brings a chance to spot something incredible in the wild.
